Mario spent the first four years of his life living in sunny San Francisco, so experiencing winter in Germany has been an exciting experience for him. A few weekends ago we drove 2 hours into the country to a ski town called Winterberg; the name of the village is very fitting as it has several ski resorts and many winter activity spots to enjoy. Mario got a sled, but what he was most excited to do was to build a snowman. We brought baby carrots with us for the snowman's nose and we went on a search for chestnuts for the eyes, birdseed for the mouth and twigs for the arms. Lastly, we topped off the snowman with my hat and Mario excitedly named him "Snowflake". However, Mario quickly became cold and abruptly was done playing in the snow, but not before he imagined "Snowflake" waking up at night to dance under the stars. Mario still speaks of "Snowflake" often and truly seemed to have loved playing in the snow, almost as much as we love enjoying new experiences with his excitement and awe!
