A few weeks ago Mario explored his first castle, Anholt Moated Castle, a private monument of the Princes of Salm-Salm. Mario was in awe of the beautiful and grand castle and had a blast exploring the grounds that include several baroque gardens, a maze, a flower meadow and many footpaths. Though the castle's museum that features the largest historically evolved private pictures collection of North Rhine-Westphalia with about 700 paintings (including Rembrandt, Jan van Goyen, Gerard ter Borch) was closed the day we were there, we enjoyed an amazing lunch of regional cuisine at the Parkhotel Wasserburg Anholt on a terrace overlooking the moat. Mario had a blast eating his nutritious lunch of french fries and imagining that there were crocodiles in the moat protecting the castle and its Princess! It was truly a memorable afternoon!
