Mario Explores His First Castle: Anholt Moated Castle
A few weeks ago, Mario explored his first castle: Anholt Moated Castle, a private monument of the Princes of Salm-Salm. Mario was in awe of the beautiful and grand castle and had a blast exploring the grounds, which include several baroque gardens, a maze, a flower meadow, and many footpaths.
Although the castle's museum, which houses the largest historically evolved private picture collection in North Rhine-Westphalia (featuring around 700 paintings, including works by Rembrandt, Jan van Goyen, and Gerard ter Borch), was closed the day we visited, we enjoyed an amazing lunch at the Parkhotel Wasserburg Anholt. We dined on a terrace overlooking the moat, and Mario had a blast eating his nutritious lunch of French fries while imagining crocodiles in the moat, guarding the castle and its Princess.
It was truly a memorable afternoon!
