Mario’s Adventure at the Kölner Zoo

Last Friday, we picked up our interim car and decided to take our first road trip on the Autobahn, heading to the Kölner Zoo in Köln (known as 'Cologne' to most Americans). Mario loves zoos, and the Kölner Zoo is pretty spectacular, with more than 10,000 animals. It’s one of the oldest and most modern zoos in the world, so as you can imagine, he had a blast!

The animal habitats at the Kölner Zoo are modern and spacious, designed to reflect the natural conditions of the animals. There’s also an aquarium with colorful fish, butterflies, crocodiles, piranhas, and praying mantises. In fact, the zoo is so large that we only made it through half of it—definitely a reason to return soon. Next time, we plan to start at the playground, which has amazing climbing structures, slides, forts, and monkey bars. We arrived there at the end of the day, and though Mario was exhausted, he didn’t want to stop climbing—my little monkey! We also intend to ride the air tram next time.
