Mario’s California Road Trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium
This past weekend, our family took our last California road trip to Monterey—I can't believe we’re leaving for Germany in just four days! Mario absolutely loves the Monterey Bay Aquarium, with its sharks, octopuses, jellyfish, penguins, cool fish, wave machines, touch pools, and splashing zones. It was such a nice escape from the chaos of packing and preparing to move, even if only for a day, and it was a great opportunity to do something fun as a family.
We stayed in a hotel for the night, and when we checked into our room, Mario asked, “Is this our new home?” We’ve been telling him we’re moving, and it was interesting to see that he understands something big is happening, even though he doesn’t quite grasp how far we’re going or what it all means. Honestly, I think Mario would be perfectly happy living in a hotel room (what three-year-old wouldn’t love a fireplace, a pool, watching TV from bed, and living just a block away from the aquarium?). However, he was immediately sad that his cats weren’t there with us.
