Patched with Love

I don't know about your child, but my son's favorite jeans are Lived-in, Loved, and Worn-Out. So with the trend in Denim this spring being not so much about the wash, but in DIY, I love that I can Patch up his favorite pair of jeans and he will look Cool and not like he is wearing hand me downs. On the runways for spring DKNY showed Patches on Denim, Alexander McQueen showed Patched Denim, and my favorite was Junya Watanabe's Patchwork on Denim. This Denim trend will make it's way to the children's wear market, but until then you can use your Child's Favorite Denim as a canvas to personalize, embellish, print, doodle, splatter, stud, and Patch to reflect his or her own unique style. I am planning to go to the Craft store and buy Patches to pile onto a pair of my son's Favorite jeans (like the DKNY ones), but I also love these necessary options for Patching up his worn out playground knees on his jeans. Wow a trend that is Fashionable and Functional- I Love It! I will be posting about this Patched Denim trend again with options of Patched Jeans to buy, but until then I absolutely love these DIY options that allow you to Patch your Child's Denim with Love!

These mended jeans from boostitch are like a work of art. The pick-stitch is called a sashiko stitch and adds a beautiful rippling texture. Traditional sashiko stitching was used by Japanese to fortify the clothing and was normally used on a blue indigo fabric with white stitching thread (so it is perfect for mending denim). If you would like to learn more about how to execute this beautiful Patch see the technique of "sashiko" at quilt studio
